Above is a picture of the Reichstag at the end of World
War II. Few renovations
were made to the building during the next two decades, as illustrated
by the
photograph below, which I took of the Reichstag building
in the
western half
of
divided Berlin
in 1969. During the Cold War (i.e., prior to the fall of the Berlin
Wall and the reunification
of Germany),
Bonn was the capital of
West Germany
and the West German parliament — the Bundestag and the Bundesrat — were
based there.
