 I reached Gillman’s Point at 6:30 am – just over five hours after leaving Kibo hut. Three guides and six clients had reached Gillman’s Point when I took this photograph. From left to right are Amanda Marcus, an assistant guide whose name I do not know, Roger Marcus, Philipp van den Berg, Nicholas – Amanda and Roger’s guide, Donia McCulley, Murriell McCulley, and Wilson Anasa Olutu. Simone Ascari and an assistant guide reached Gillman’s Point a bit later (after Roger, Philipp, Murriell and Donia, and I had set off for Uhuru Peak, and after Amanda and an assistant guide had started to go down.) In all, seven out of ten of our party reached Gillman’s Point on Kibo’s crater rim. |
