 We left the Mandara huts at 7:50 am and began walking towards Horombo. Initially, it was a beautiful near-cloudless morning, and Kilimanjaro’s two main peaks – Kibo and Mawenzi – were clearly visible across the open, moor-like “high altitude heathland and chaparral” (to quote Professor Truman Young). |
