The Nebraska capitol building in Lincoln was designed by Bertam Goodhue and built
between 1922 and 1932. It was once "voted one of the 10 most beautiful buildings in
the world by a poll of 500 architects." Somewhat more realistically, it has also been
called "one of America's greatest architectural achievements of the twentieth cen-
tury." Less flattering is its nickname: "the penis of the prairies"!


Nebraska has the only unicameral legislature in all the
50 states of the USA. Although Nebraska ceased being
a two chamber legislature in 1937, the 49 members of
"the Nebraska Unicameral" (which is what the legis-
lature now calls itself) are known as Senators.
